Accessibility

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, at level AA. That is the standard the page was designed and checked against.

What that means here

• Contrast. Every text color on the site was measured against the actual color painted behind it. Ordinary copy sits at 9.3 to 1 and headings at 15 to 1, well above the 4.5 to 1 the standard asks for. No text is pure white.
• Keyboard. Everything that can be operated with a mouse can be operated with a keyboard alone. The focus outline is always visible, and there is a skip link to the main content.
• The menu panels. Each one is a dialog with two obvious ways out — a large close button pinned to the top of the panel and a Close at the end of the list. The Escape key closes it and focus returns to where you were.
• Motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the opening animation is skipped and the hovers and transitions stop.
• Images. Photographs carry text descriptions. Decorative marks are hidden from screen readers so they are not read aloud.
• Text size. The page reflows down to a narrow phone and text can be enlarged without anything being cut off.
• Structure. Real headings, real lists and real buttons, so a screen reader can navigate the page by its structure. The whole menu is present as text.

Known limits

The film at the top of the page has no speech and carries no information that is not also written on the page in text. It is muted and it can be ignored entirely.
